    A, a

The first letter of the Latin and English alphabets, derived from the Greek alpha. The form of the uppercase "A" derives from the North Semitic letter aleph, later adopted by the Greeks and ultimately by the Romans. The lowercase "a" derives from the Latin cursive letter a and comes down in its current form thanks to Carolingian and Florentine influences.
