    Arc Lamp

A high-intensity electric lamp in which light is produced by the jumping or "arcing" of electricity either between two carbon rods in air or between metal electrodes in a xenon gas-filled quartz bulb. Pulsed-xenon arc lamps are still used in photography and in conventional platemaking.
