    Authoring Language

A script-based programming language for developing multimedia productions and presentations. Authoring languages can vary in the complexity of the programming required to get the presentation to function properly. A high-level language, such as Lingo used in Macromedia Director, lets the author specify within the authoring system what should occur at a given point, but it is up to the program to determine how it gets done. In a low-level language, such as C, the author would need to directly program the specific code telling the application how to accomplish things.
