    Authoring System

In general, any computer application used to create multimedia presentations and productions. Authoring programs vary widely in the level of their complexity; some allow iconic or graphical insertion of sound clips, graphics, video, and text into flow charts, while others require increasing degrees of script-based programming using an authoring language. In general, a presentation written in a specific programming language such as C tends to run faster and perform better than one created graphically. Authoring software is often also known as authorware (also the brand name of a program used for authoring).
