    Barrier Coat

In labelmaking, a coating applied to the surface of the face material to prevent the migration of the adhesive into the face material (and vice versa) and to enhance the anchoring of the adhesive. Also known as primer, sealer coat, and tie coat.

In binding and finishing, a barrier coat (or barrier coating') is used on food packaging to increase resistance to air, moisture, or other environmental conditions.
