    Base Alignment

In typography, the setting of a line of type so that all the characters appear to "sit" on the same baseline. Base alignment also refers to the ability of a typesetting device to mix typefaces and type sizes on the same line and still have the characters aligned on the baseline. Also known as horizontal alignment. See Alignment.
