    Bump Mapping

    In computer graphics, the act of selectively shading the surface of a three-dimensional object so as to impart to it the appearance of a bumpy surface. Essentially, bumps are highlit and depressions are shaded, producing an orange peel effect when the surface is viewed at certain angles. This type of surface texturing is designed to be used for regular overall texturing, not for selective texturing such as the creation of mountains in a landscape.
