    Color Graphics Adapter

An expansion board for IBM-compatible computers that provided 320 x 200-pixel resolution for color monitors (and 640 x 200-pixel resolution for monochrome monitors). The CGA provided four-color display, but with an 8 x 8-pixel cell for text, was incapable of displaying readable text or high-resolution graphics. The CGA was the first color video expansion card for IBM compatibles, but was supplanted by the Hercules Adapter. IBM also superseded CGA with the Enhanced Graphics Adapter.
