    Generally speaking, the digitization of any non-digital information, be it text (by means of optical character recognition), graphics (by means of a scanner), audio and video (by means of a capture board), etc.

    The term data capture also refers to the ability of a multimedia application to obtain user input (such as name, address, etc.) and export it into a database.
