    Digital Image

Any image that exists as digital data on a computer. A digital image has as its most fundamental unit a pixel, each of which possesses its own color. Depending upon the color depth of the display, a pixel may be one of two colors or one of over several million colors. When viewed on a monitor or output onto paper or film, a digital image resembles a photograph. Many software applications allow for the editing, correction, manipulation, and enhancing of digital images. Such images may be obtained via scanning, from photo CDs, or from digital cameras.
