    Digitized Character

Character shape which is specified as a series of numeric values in binary encoded form. The numbers can represent points which must be redrawn in order to create the character back on a raster typesetter. The digitized shape can also be a set of x/y coordinates connected by arcs or straight-line segments defining the outline of the character. A special computation called a dot-fill algorithm then computes the additional points needed to recreate the character on the imaging device.
