    Diluent

A solvent or other fluid added to a printing ink as a means of reducing the ink's viscosity. A diluent does not necessarily have to be a true solvent (i.e., capable of dissolving the binder in the ink vehicle), but should maintain a high degree of effectiveness when used in combination with true solvents.
