    A red, organic, crystalline, water-insoluble solid used as a brilliant red dye or pigment in printing inks. Eosine is also called eosin, bromeosin, and tetrabromofluorescein (chemical formula C20H8Br4O5). A lead lake of eosine is called phloxine.
