    Extra-Trinary Color

Any additional color beyond the basic cyan-magenta-yellow triumvirate added to a printed reproduction. Most process color printing is accomplished using cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK). Additional colors (which may be process colors or special colors) may be needed to increase the density range of a reproduction, or to reproduce unique colors that more closely approximate those used in the original image. Extra-trinary colors require additional color separation films and additional plates. Extra-trinary colors can be applied by means of color substitution, a bump plate, or a touch plate.
