    Fiber Distributed Data Interface

A network utilizing a token-passing protocol in which devices are connected with optical fiber wiring. FDDI supports transmission speeds of up to 100 megabits per second. FDDI equipment is expensive, however, and is only used when the traffic volume warrants it. See also Copper Distributed Data Interface.
