    General MIDI

    In multimedia and audio recording, a standardization of channel numbers used for MIDI, allowing MIDI files to be transferred from system to system while still having each synthesized instrument remain the same. For example, a violin on one system will remain a violin on another system. See Musical Instrument Digital Interface.
