    H, h

The eighth letter of the Latin and English alphabets. The form of the capital "H" has its origins in the North Semitic alphabets, as well as the Greek capital letter eta, which although denoting an "E" sound was written as the modern "H." Although earlier alphabets utilized the form of the letter "H," it wasn't until the advent of English that it took on an aspirate pronunciation.
