    High-Definition Television

A new standard for television broadcasting, still under development as of this writing. The advantages of HDTV include sharper resolution, increasing the number of scan lines on a screen from 525 (in NTSC) or 625 (In PAL and SECAM) to 1250, and an aspect ratio increase from the current 3:4 to 9:16. In addition to sharper picture quality and a wider screen, HDTV will also produce new standards in hardware, graphics processors, and compression schemes.
