    Imaging Model

The way a printer, page-description language or graphics application defines a space for graphics and how elements are put in it. PostScript uses a "painting" model that builds an image from a blank field by using operators to trace paths or to place defined elements. Objects' positions are specified in an imaginary high-resolution user space, which is then mapped for output into the available resolution of the device space for the specific output hardware.
