    Inferior

In typography, characters set in a smaller point size and positioned below the baseline, also called a subscript. Inferior characters are used for chemical equations (such as "H2O"), etc. They are most often numerals, but letters can be used as well. Inferiors can be "manufactured" by changing to a smaller size and reversing the line spacing (if this capability is available) for positioning. See also Superior.
