    Long Shot

In photography—be it still, motion picture, or video—a shot in which the subject is far from the camera, as, for example, an individual sitting on a park bench photographed from across the street. A long shot is distinct from a medium shot and close up, and usually serves to provide a means of determining a subject's geographic location, especially when used as an establishing shot. See also Extreme Long Shot. In shooting scripts, a long shot is indicated by LS.
