In Internet terminology, an abbreviation for Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions, a specification for Internet data transmission that allows users to transmit and receive multi-part e-mail messages, the content of which may comprise data types other than generic ASCII text, such as PostScript files, binary files, images, audio, video, etc. See also uuencode and uudecode.
