    Matching Italic

In typography, a type of italic type created with the same design as a corresponding roman type, as opposed to "pure"or unrelated italic which is designed to stand alone. Digitized typesetters create matching italic by electronically modifying the roman version of the typeface and imparting a slant to it. See Italic.
