    P, p

The sixteenth letter of the English alphabet, deriving from the North Semitic pe and, phonetically, the Greek pi. The form of the uppercase "P," bears little resemblance to its Greek and Etruscan progenitors, and even in early Latin resembled a candy-cane, eventuall closing the top loop in later Latin. The lowercase "p" is derived from the uppercase version simply by extending the descender.
