    Polar Solvent

A solvent composed of chemical compounds containing oxygen, such as water, esters, ketones, alcohols, and other organic compounds, as opposed to non-polar solvents which comprise compounds made from hydrocarbons. A characteristic of polar solvents is their electrical conductivity which enables them to prevent the build-up of static charges, a degree of difficulty commonly found in non-polar solvents.
