    Pre-Roll

In video editing, to rewind a video tape a short distance before an in-point so as to ensure that the tape is up to speed when the edit is made, preventing distortion or other video errors. The ability to pre-roll tapes is standard on nearly all professional and semi-professional editing equipment.
