    Proof Press

    A small, often hand-fed and hand-operated printing press used to make proofs of process color (or often spot color jobs, prior to running the job on a production press. Proof presses print four- or more color jobs one color at a time, registration being accomplished with a scope or other device. Proof presses are used to check the color balance and the efficiacy of ink color mixing.
