    SMPTE Time Code

In video production, an eight-digit code used to identify video images: HH/MM/SS/FF, or "hours:minutes:seconds:frames." The SMPTE time code was developed by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, and is a universally adopted synchronization standard for audio, video, and film. The SMPTE code also has a built-in compensation for drop-frames in NTSC broadcasting.
