    Sampling Rate

In the digitizing of images, sounds, and video, the frequency with which points are recorded.

In scanning, the sampling rate is measured as the number of samples taken per inch (or millimeter), both horizontally and vertically. Operator-controlled variations of the sampling rate include the pixel size to be sampled, and the resolution at which the image is to be sampled. Also referred to as the sampling frequency.
