    Spot Size

The diameter of the spot that a scanner can detect or an output device can image. The spot size is the determining factor in a device's resolution: the smaller the spot, the more that can fit in a particular unit of linear distance, and the smoother the image that will be scanned or output. See Spot and Resolution.
