    Type 3 PostScript Font

A variety of PostScript font developed by Adobe Systems that does not include in its font description special encryption algorithms (or hints). Consequently, they are less quickly rendered, bulkier in file size, and less appealing aesthetically than Type 1 PostScript fonts. Type 3 fonts, however, can contain grayscale fills, as well as complex and stroked characters. However, Type 3 fonts cannot be displayed on screen by Adobe Type Manager. Type 1 fonts are the more commonly used of the two.
